Before you apply
Read the job description thoroughly to make sure you fit the entry criteria at least. Generally, if you fit 70 – 75% of the job requirements feel confident enough to apply – You do not need to fit the entire job description. Just make sure for the requirements that you feel apply to your experience and knowledge you have solid examples to back that up for the interview stage
Tailor your resume and cover letter to include some key words and terminologies used in the job posting, especially if it had mentioned something unique
Make sure your resume is up to date
Check your resume for grammar and do a spell check – yes again – you will be surprised at how many typos and phrases you will notice need to be fixed
Cover letters may not be mentioned as mandatory but include one if the job portal allows it. Although everyone may not read the cover letter, it gives the impression that you made the effort to submit a complete application
Ensure your cover letter is tailored to the job you are applying for and dated and addressed to the right person, especially if you are on an "applying spree"!
Where to apply
While I encourage you ensure your alerts are set up for new job postings in LinkedIn, I do suggest visiting the company’s website often to see job postings. Sometimes there may be a lag between when LinkedIn may post the job and you may have missed the opportunity to be one of the first few candidates to apply.
Refrain from applying on the recruitment websites and preferably apply on the company website itself
When to apply
Apply as soon as it’s been posted or apply towards the end of the posting period, if you know it because resumes in the middle tend to get lost in all the noise
Last but not the least, when you apply set your intention to succeed and not with the attitude that “I probably won’t get this job but will apply for it anyway”. MINDSET IS EVERYTHING!

Good Luck Always…
